What is Interns4J?
Interns4J is an internship initiative by Durbanville Baptist Church that combines the more traditional “year of your life” service concept at the church, with the work place experience style programmes found in commercial organisations.
Its focus is:
LEARN
– Interns learn about themselves, their skills, the challenges of the working world and the church all of which is underpinned by a spiritual journey and personal walk with Christ.
EARN
– Interns not only have an opportunity to earn a small stipend, but the greatest earnings will be in the form of an intentional career focused programme. There will be skills development and training opportunities, career coaching sessions and a safe environment to operate as a working professional, where you will receive feedback, encouragement and support to meet the major challenges
SUCCEED
– Interns will graduate from the year with an expanded CV and an enhanced understanding of their strengths and value offer and career “next steps”. They will be better equipped to embrace the job market, tackle interviews and set themselves up for success.
Who is this programme aimed at?
We envision interns as young people from any or all following streams:
Matriculants
looking for a more traditional “gap year”, but wanting to also gain some clarity and experience to support their future careers.
Graduates
from any field that would like to work with the church for a year, as well as gain work experience and career focussed development.
Undergraduate & Graduate
students in Theology looking for work experience.
Is the programme for DBC members only?
No, the programme is open to any young person that falls into the 3 groups described above. In fact we are excited to welcome new faces and fresh ideas to the team!
What is the duration of the programme?
This is a 12 months programme that runs alongside the school calendar year.
